Experience the best of Killarney
Killarney is a small County Kerry town beside a national park of lakes, mountains and old woodland, and the usual start of the Ring of Kerry.

Killarney National Park, on the town's doorstep, takes in three lakes and ancient oak and yew woods, with the MacGillycuddy's Reeks rising to the west, where Carrauntoohil is the highest mountain in Ireland. Muckross House is a Victorian mansion with gardens on a lake shore, Muckross Abbey is a ruined friary, Ross Castle stands on the water, and Torc Waterfall drops through the woods. The park shelters Ireland's only native herd of red deer.
Horse-drawn jaunting cars carry visitors through the park, and the narrow Gap of Dunloe pass runs between sheer hills to the west. The Ring of Kerry, a scenic loop of about 180 kilometres around the Iveragh Peninsula, begins and ends at the town, and the Dingle Peninsula lies to the north-west. Boats cross to Skellig Michael, a monastic island on UNESCO's list, from Portmagee.
Kerry lamb, seafood chowder, brown soda bread and Irish coffee fill the menus, and the town's pubs host live traditional music most evenings. St Mary's Cathedral, designed by Pugin, stands at the edge of the centre, and showers sweep across the lakes at any time of year.
