Itinerary

  1. The Crane is one of the defining symbols of Gdansk and represents what little is left of the city's great trading age. Built in the mid-15th century as part of the biggest double-towered gate on the shoreline, it also served to install and remove ships' masts, and to load and unload heavy cargo from vessels docked at the quay. Incredibly, this human-powered device could hoist loads of up to 2000kg, making it the largest crane in medieval Europe.

    5 min

  2. SS Sołdek was a Polish coal and ore freighter.

    5 min

  3. Gdansk Remontowa Shipyard is still a busy, working yard and for those interested to see ships of all sizes in different stages of repair or construction. It is so interesting to paddle and be able to see men working on ferries.

  4. Amazing kayak tour through the river Motlawa around two islands of Gdansk: Granary Island and Olowianka Island. Gdansk is quite uniquely located at the crossroads of sea and river routes, waterways of the Vistula river at the Baltic estuary, as well as the Radunia and Motlawa rivers. This had a significant impact on the city’s development. The daily living as shown in literature and drawings proves that water was the important element of the city’s life. It is important today to show Gdansk through its relation to water.

  5. Kayak tour gives a different perspective on the historical value of the Main City. Paddling through the canals allows freedom to see places ferries cannot access. We will show you a completely different Gdansk to the one you’ve seen on land.

  • 5Beautiful Gdansk by canoe

When you think of Gdansk, you think shipbuilding, heavy industry, urban decay. All that’s changed. The shipyards are being redeveloped and the factories cleaned up. But Gdansk has also a beautiful old town with lots of lovely old buildings. Much of it is on the water as it was important Hanseatic port. It’s lovely to walk around but for a different perspective, you can see it from the water. The tour leaves from the shipyards and goes into the heart of the old town. You paddle in a small group with a guide who shows landmarks and explains context. You go under the main bridges and around the islands. Our tour was timed so that we finished with the sun setting over the shipyard cranes. It was a very enjoyable trip and well worth doing in Gdansk.

  • 5Solar eclipse kayaking! Awesome!

What a fantastic way to spend a few hours in Gdansk! The instructors were very clear, good fun but knew a lot about the area. We kayaked right into the city centre where we had been walking only a few hours before. The pace was spot on, we had one complete beginner, and myself and 2 teenagers who had kayaked before but not in double kayaks. We also finished at the perfect moment to see the solar eclipse at sunset. Can't recommend highly enough!

  • 5Amazing Sunset Kayaking Tour

I would highly recommend booking the sunset kayaking tour in Gdansk. We were new to kayaking so a bit apprehensive beforehand. However, with the help of Mike, our friendly instructor, we soon got the hang of it. The session was just the right length of time and Mike told us some interesting facts about the buildings along the way.

About Gdańsk

Gdańsk is a Baltic port in northern Poland with a rebuilt Hanseatic old town, amber shops, a medieval crane and the shipyard where Solidarity began.

Gdańsk grew rich on the Baltic grain and timber trade, and its Main Town was rebuilt after the damage of the Second World War in the style of earlier centuries. The Long Market is the centre, with Neptune's Fountain and the Artus Court, and the gates at either end open onto the Motława River. St Mary's Church, one of the largest brick churches in the world, rises above the narrow houses.

Top-ranked sights in Gdańsk: St. Mary’s Church, Gdansk Old Town (Gdańsk Stare Miasto), Museum of the Second World War.
