Highlights
Iceland's most photographed ice caves — without the all-day commitment. Step inside Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier, and walk among naturally formed crystal-blue ice formations on a guided 2.5-hour tour from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Small-group size — maximum 12 travelers — so you have space for photos and personal attention from your guide. All Glacier Trips guides are AIMG-certified (Association of Icelandic Mountain Guides) and Wilderness First Responders (WFR). You're on the ice with trained professionals — not part-time tour guides. Our local guides — Laura, Stefan, Sindri and others based in Höfn — are named by name in over 100 five-star Viator reviews. Each morning we read the conditions and pick the best, quietest cave for the day. All technical safety gear — helmets, crampons, headlights — is included. A photographer-friendly pace, hand-picked for ice cave first-timers.

Itinerary
The Vatnajökull Glacier tour lasts approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on weather conditions and cave location. Each ice cave is naturally formed, so their shape and position change with the seasons. Your safety is the top priority. Guides carefully select the best and safest ice cave for each tour. The drive and hike to the cave may vary daily based on accessibility and weather.
This tour offers a unique opportunity to explore a stunning ice cave within Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe. If you're looking to capture or photograph the brilliant blue crystal colors of the ice, this experience is highly recommended. On the way from Jökulsárlón, you may witness breathtaking glacier landscapes, snow-covered mountains, and sweeping views of Iceland’s dramatic south coast.
On the short drive between Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the glacier, we pass by Diamond Beach (Fellsfjara) — a black sand beach where icebergs from the lagoon wash ashore and glitter against the dark volcanic sand.

4Very nice tour guide,...
Very nice tour guide, smooth trek, but misleading photos/ info. Wish there was a bit of a warning about the ice cave coloring (black ice vs blue transparent). But enjoyed the experience regardless.
56-hour experience exceeded our expectations
What a fantastic day! After several days of rain, the sun finally came out, making our Blue Ice Cave adventure even more magical. A huge thank you to our guide, Harvie. He was patient, professional, and clearly passionate about what he does. He shared lots of interesting information, looked after everyone in the group, and made us feel safe and comfortable throughout the tour. The entire 6-hour experience exceeded our expectations and was one of the highlights of our Iceland trip. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a better day. Highly recommend this tour and especially Harvie!
5Great experience, highly recommended!
Truly magical experience with otherworldly lighting and formations. Our pictures came out amazing!
5Fantastic
INCREDIBLE, felt like being in space, and the guide was great, wish we had done an even longer tour.
5Family Tour
Amazing tour! Amazing tour guide Alex, who even included awesome pictures which he took from us. Also very good guide with kids. All off the approximately 199 questions were patiently answered. We went with kids and grandparents and highly recommend the tour! Thanks again!
3Not current 2026 photos
The ice changes every year. So you are not going to a place that looks like these photos at alll (at least for 2026). The guide was great, but the first thing they tell you when you get to the ice and you won’t see any large caves like you see in their photos of the tour. So they are well aware it is misrepresented. I’ve never been on a trip through Viator that has had such misleading photos/expectations given. That being said, I still would have gone to see the small ice caves that are there. Just not a fan of the misrepresentation. If the photo were accurate it would have been 5/5 stars.

About Reykjavik
Reykjavik is the northernmost capital of any nation, a colourful, compact city of art and music that opens onto Iceland's volcanic landscapes.
The landmark Hallgrímskirkja church, its tower inspired by basalt columns, rises above streets of brightly painted houses. Down by the harbour, the glass-fronted Harpa concert hall shimmers on the water, and the Sun Voyager sculpture faces the sea toward Mount Esja. Laugavegur, the main shopping street, is lined with design shops, cafés and bars.
