Highlights

Discover Sambor Prei Kuk, a 7th century pre-Angkorian capital with more than a hundred jungle temples, on a full day tour via the historic Kampong Kdei bridge. South of Siem Reap in Kampong Thom province lies Sambor Prei Kuk, the pre-Angkorian capital of Isanapura and one of the earliest surviving examples of Khmer architecture. En route, stop at Kampong Kdei, once the longest corbelled stone-arch bridge in the world. At Sambor Prei Kuk, walk through four temple groups comprising more than a hundred brick structures dating to the 7th century, roughly 615 to 650 AD, many entwined with tree roots and set among lush forest. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017, it offers a quieter, more contemplative counterpoint to the busier Angkor circuit. Lunch is served near the temples before the drive back to Siem Reap, leaving behind the serene atmosphere of one of Cambodia's oldest surviving cities. A full day tracing Khmer architecture back to its earliest roots.

    1.5 h

  2. Upon nearing the temple grounds, we head in northern direction for about 25 kilometres on a paved road to explore the pre-Angkorian Chenla capital of Prasat Sambor Prei Kuk for the visit, the complex of Isanapura is composed of 4 groups of temples. These are among the most ancient surviving examples of Khmer architecture. Enjoy a beautiful walk through the jungle with breath-taking views. It is certainly one the most beautiful examples of the Pre-Angkorian art of the 7th century (615 - 650AD). With more than hundred temples in a luxuriant vegetation, many are in ruins and some of them are sustains by roots of cheese monger as wood sculpting. Part of exploring the main ruins is done on foot over narrow paths, so bring some good walking shoes. Lunch will be served near the temple before we make our move back in the direction of Siem Reap and leave the serene and soothing atmosphere of Sambor Prei Kuk behind us. We expect to be back at your hotel at around 5 pm.

About Siem Reap

Siem Reap is the riverside town beside Angkor, Cambodia's vast complex of Khmer temples, with night markets, river walks and a relaxed centre.

Angkor Wat, often called the largest religious monument in the world, rises above its moat in a silhouette of lotus-bud towers that is breathtaking at sunrise. Nearby, the walled city of Angkor Thom holds the Bayon, with its more than two hundred serene stone faces, the Terrace of the Elephants and the Baphuon, while Ta Prohm is gripped by the roots of giant silk-cotton and strangler fig trees.

Top-ranked sights in Siem Reap: Angkor Thom, Tonlé Sap, Kampong Phluk.
