Itinerary

  1. The magnificent temple, adorned with 1,008 statues of Hindu deities, is the masterpiece of renowned South Indian sculptor Nagalingam and his son Ramanathan. Supported by a dedicated team of around 100 designers, painters, and architects from Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, they completed the grand Raja Gopuram in 2007 at an estimated cost of Rs. 150 million. This architectural marvel stands as a powerful testament to their exceptional skill, deep devotion, and artistic vision.

    30 min

  2. Discover the majestic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka’s most remarkable landmarks. Built in the 5th century by King Kashyapa as his royal palace and citadel, this ancient marvel rises 200 meters above the surrounding plains, offering breathtaking views. The fortress is renowned for its advanced architectural design, intricate water gardens, frescoes of celestial maidens, and the iconic Mirror Wall, which still preserves ancient inscriptions. A testament to ingenuity and artistry, Sigiriya remains a symbol of Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage.

    2 h

  3. The Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in central Sri Lanka. Situated 148 kilometers east of Colombo and 72 kilometers north of Kandy, it is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in the country. This sacred site features five stunning caves adorned with intricate murals and over 150 statues of Buddha, showcasing the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Sri Lanka.

    1 h

  4. Seize the opportunity to explore Minneriya National Park in the afternoon and witness the world’s largest known gathering of wild Asian elephants. To ensure the best experience, we recommend starting the tour early. While the tour price does not include entrance tickets or safari jeep fees, we will assist you in arranging these. This region includes three national parks—Minneriya, Kaudulla, and Hurulu Eco Park. Since elephants migrate seasonally between these parks, our expert jeep company, guided by wildlife advisers, will take you to the park with the largest herds on the day of your visit. Please ensure you book the correct safari option to fully enjoy this experience. Don’t miss this unforgettable chance to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat!

    3 h

  5. Pidurangala Rock, located near Sigiriya, offers a moderate 30–45 minute hike to its summit, rewarding visitors with panoramic views of the countryside and a close-up view of Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Unlike Sigiriya, it is quieter, more affordable, and holds cultural significance as the site of an ancient Buddhist monastery with caves used by monks centuries ago. Ideal for adventure seekers, photographers, and those seeking tranquility, Pidurangala provides a unique experience. Please note, visits to both Sigiriya Lion Rock and Pidurangala are typically not scheduled on the same day. If you wish to see both, please request in advance, as the itinerary may require adjustment.

  • 5A Great Day in Sigiriya and Dambulla

I had a wonderful private tour to Sigiriya and Dambulla from Kandy. Our guide, Irfan, was friendly, flexible, and very helpful. I had shared my food preferences in advance, and he took us to a suitable place for lunch. He also shared interesting information about Sri Lankan history and culture along the way. Whenever we spotted wild animals, he was thoughtful enough to give us plenty of time to see the animals and take photos. The car was clean and comfortable, and the driving was safe. We really enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it.

  • 5Nice trip to Sigiriya

We are lucky today to have Mr Irfan to be our guide to Sigiriya. He was right on time to pick us up in the morning and patiently waited for us since we were a bit late. During the whole journey on the road, he clearly explained where we were and provided a lot of information about things we saw on the way. He also shared many interesting facts about the cultures and religions in Sri Lanka. For lunch, Mr Irfan brought us to a local restaurant, which provided nice local food with reasonable price. At different attractions including Dambulla Cave Temple and Sigiriya, Mr Irfan guided us and helped us to take a lot of nice pictures to record our journey. Overall, the tour to Sigiriya and Dambulla was so much fun and so fruitful with his company. The day trip was definitely worth it!

About Kandy

Kandy is the hill-country city of Sri Lanka, home to the Temple of the Tooth, a tree-fringed lake and a botanical garden among tea-covered hills.

Kandy was the last capital of the Sinhalese kings until the British took it in 1815. It stands around an artificial lake, about 500 metres above sea level, in the Central Highlands. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a UNESCO site, holds a relic said to be a tooth of the Buddha, and pilgrims bring lotus flowers each day. Drummers and dancers perform at the shrine's rituals.
