Highlights

Lukomir is the highest and most isolated village in Bosnia. This hike is also the most popular hike in the country. And for a good reason. It offers all: amazing views, long walks, culture, history and legends. This is the most popular one day trip from Sarajevo. We start our tour on the southern slopes of Bjelašnica mountain, from medieval Umoljani village. We will make a short stop on ancient necropolis at Dolovi, and then continue towards Umoljani. We will then pass through Gradina - highland summer village, and go to Studeni Potok stream. On the way, we will visit 40-meter Peruće Waterfall before continuing to Lukomir. Our last stop - Lukomir village. It lives the same life for more than 600 years, Bosnia’s highest and most isolated mountain village. On the edge of the village you will be treated to a breathtaking view of Rakitnica Canyon. We will have traditional homemade lunch prepared by our hosts. You will also have the opportunity to purchase local handcrafts

  • 5Hike the Mountains in Sarajevo with Kenan and Experience Bosnia

The mountains and landscape were beautiful. Accommodation in Lakomir was comfortable and the local food (dinner-a dough pastry stuffed with cheese and spinach) very good after half a day of walking. The trek was easy, thanks to the splendid weather (which should not be underestimated) and Kenan (the guide’s ) easy pace. Loved his intensity-his passion for his country, the mountains and his culture! Respect! GO! And GO again!

  • 5Best guide ever

If you're considering a hiking tour in Bosnia, don't hesitate for a second. The landscapes are absolutely breathtaking, but what truly made this experience unforgettable was our guide, Kenan. His knowledge of the mountains, the country's history and culture, and his passion for sharing them transformed this trip into much more than a hike. Every stop became an opportunity to understand Bosnia beyond its beautiful scenery. This trip gave me far more than I expected. I came for the mountains, but I left with a much deeper understanding of Bosnia and its people. Highly recommended.

  • 5Great guide, fantastic views, fun day

What a wonderful day trip from Sarajevo! Our guide, Ahmed, was so personable and knowledgeable, a true joy to spend the day hiking through the woods with. The drive there was a breeze, the hike took around 3 hours with plenty of stops for pictures and rest. I didn’t find it strenuous, but if you aren’t used to mountain hiking with some steep, rocky areas it may not be for you! Ahmed was super attentive, though, and made sure everyone got through the tougher spots without any issues. The group was really friendly and kind as well, and lunch in the village was great. Highly recommend!

About Sarajevo

Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, lies in a mountain-ringed valley where Ottoman bazaars meet Austro-Hungarian boulevards.

Sarajevo follows the Miljacka River through a long valley with steep green hills on either side. Baščaršija, the old Ottoman bazaar, has copper workshops, tea houses and the Sebilj, a wooden fountain, and the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque dates from the 1530s. West of it, the streets turn to Austro-Hungarian façades and cafés, so that a mosque, a Catholic cathedral, an Orthodox church and a synagogue all stand within a short walk.

Top-ranked sights in Sarajevo: Sarajevo Tunnel (Tunel Spasa), Sarajevo Olympic Bobsleigh and Luge Track, Latin Bridge (Latinska Ćuprija).
