Experience the best of Mostar
Mostar is the main city of Herzegovina, set on the Neretva River and known for its arched Ottoman bridge and the old bazaar around it.

Mostar takes its name from the bridge-keepers who once guarded the crossing, and the Old Bridge, Stari Most, is its symbol: a single high stone arch built by the Ottomans in 1566 over the green Neretva. It was destroyed in 1993 during the war and rebuilt, reopening in 2004, and the old town around it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cobbled lanes of the Kujundžiluk bazaar sell copperware and crafts.
The minarets and domes of Ottoman mosques, such as Koski Mehmed Pasha, share the skyline with Catholic and Orthodox churches, and young men dive from the bridge in summer. Day trips lead to the dervish house at Blagaj, set under a cliff at the source of the Buna River, the fortified hill village of Počitelj and the cascades at Kravica. The Adriatic coast and Dubrovnik are a few hours' drive away.
Ćevapi, small grilled sausages served in flatbread with onion, are the local staple, with burek pastries, Bosnian coffee in a copper pot and baklava to follow. Herzegovina also makes wine, notably the white Žilavka and the red Blatina. Summers are very hot, and spring and early autumn are milder.
