  • 5Educational and entertaining

Roberto was a very animated guide with lots of personal and familial ties to the city. Learning about the architecture and different cultural influences was very interesting. I especially liked learning my Mayan animal guide. Felt very safe as a female solo traveler.

  • 5Insider experience

Our guide was Felix and he took us around the city on a rainy Sunday. It was only my party for the tour and that was a great experience. He knew a lot about the architecture of the buildings and different symbols embedded into them. He took us inside of a lot of places that we wouldn't have gone without him and told us about extra sites we could do on other days in Antigua. This was very cool because I never would have known about these side missions had he not told me. For example, he told us where to go if we wanted to visit the rooftop of one of the churches. He took us inside of historic hotels and told us a lot about the history of preserving the city. He gave restaurant recommendations and let us ask questions about various things that we saw. He also helped us take photos and helped us with the weather forecast which is not as simple as it might seem.

Very informative tour. We had an emergency and Roberto was very accommodating up to going to pick us up from our location. He took us to many locations and had a lot of knowledge. He made sure we got many pictures.

About Antigua

Antigua Guatemala is a colonial city of cobbled streets, ruined churches and pastel façades, ringed by three volcanoes in the Guatemalan highlands.

Antigua was the capital of Spanish Guatemala until earthquakes in 1773 led to the move of the government to the present capital. The grid of cobbled streets and low colonial houses survived, together with the ruins of grand churches and convents, and the town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The yellow Santa Catalina Arch, with its clock tower, frames Volcán de Agua at the end of a street.

Top-ranked sights in Antigua: Antigua Central Park (Parque Central), Cerro de la Cruz (Hill of the Cross), La Merced Church (Iglesia de la Merced).
