About Arica
Arica is Chile's northernmost city, a desert port below a great headland, with warm beaches, ancient mummies and the high Andes a day's drive away.
Arica sits on the Pacific in the Atacama Desert, close to the Peruvian border, and was Peruvian until the War of the Pacific. The headland of El Morro rises over the centre, with a hilltop museum telling of the battle of 1880, and the streets below are lined with palms and low buildings.
Top-ranked sights in Arica: Museo Arqueologico San Miguel de Azapa, Morro de Arica, Playa La Lisera.
