Experience the best of Moshi
Moshi is a friendly market town on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro, the main base for climbing Africa's highest mountain.

Kilimanjaro's snow-capped summit towers over the town on clear mornings, and Moshi is where most climbers prepare and later celebrate. Routes such as Marangu and Machame start at park gates a short drive away, while Lemosho sets off from the far western side of the mountain, climbing through farmland, rainforest, heath and alpine desert to the glaciers near Uhuru Peak.
In town, the central market is busy with fruit, spices and bright fabrics. Coffee is grown on the slopes above by Chagga farmers, whose smallholdings welcome visitors to see beans picked, roasted and brewed. Day hikes reach the Materuni waterfalls, and the clear, warm pools of the Kikuletwa hot springs, set among fig trees, make a refreshing outing.
Arusha and the northern safari parks lie within reach, so many visitors pair a climb with time in Tarangire, Ngorongoro or the Serengeti. Plantain stew, grilled meats and chapati are everyday fare. The driest months, from June to October and again from January to early March, are the most popular for climbing, while the long rains fall in spring.
