Highlights
All your equipment and supplies are carried by porters and a cook prepares all your meals. Unlike the Marangu Route where you sleep in huts, on the Machame you sleep in tents (tents are included), and the porters will pitch your tent for you. Meals are served in a dinner tent or on a blanket outside. This makes the Machame, which is referred to as the "Whiskey Route," better suited to more adventurous hikers, and it also rewards you with better views than other Routes. From late afternoon sunsets at Shira, to the misty revelations of Kibo's great Barranco Wall, the Machame Route offers the spunky hiker a continuous scenic slide show.

5Kilimanjaro Machame - Zara - Joseph
The experience was unforgettable. Pushed to my limit, the best scenery I have ever seen, feeling part of a huge family with one big common goal. We booked Kilimanjaro as a work charity challenge. Tour Compass, Zara Tanzanian Adventures and Joseph Majuta. Joseph had built an amazing team to give us the best possible chance of all submitting, but also having the most amazing time while doing so. If anyone is thinking of doing what we did, I could not recommend Joseph and his team enough. Pole Pole!

About Moshi
Moshi is a friendly market town on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro, the main base for climbing Africa's highest mountain.
Kilimanjaro's snow-capped summit towers over the town on clear mornings, and Moshi is where most climbers prepare and later celebrate. Routes such as Marangu and Machame start at park gates a short drive away, while Lemosho sets off from the far western side of the mountain, climbing through farmland, rainforest, heath and alpine desert to the glaciers near Uhuru Peak.
Top-ranked sights in Moshi: Materuni Waterfall, Lake Chala, Kikuletwa Hot Springs (Chemka Hot Springs).
