Experience the best of Choc

Choc lies on the north-west coast of St Lucia, just north of Castries, around Choc Bay and its beach. The area is a mix of homes, shops and hotels on the stretch of coast between the capital and the resort area of Rodney Bay. George F. L. Charles Airport, usually called Vigie, is close by on the northern edge of Castries.

In Castries, the cathedral faces Derek Walcott Square, named for the island's Nobel prize-winning poet, and the Central Market sells spices, fruit and crafts. Fort Charlotte, on Morne Fortune, looks over the harbour, and the interior rises to forested ridges. Pigeon Island and Marigot Bay are close, and the twin volcanic spires of the Pitons, a World Heritage site, lie in the south-west of the island.

Callaloo, grilled fish with plantain and breadfruit, and green fig and saltfish, the national dish, are common on local menus, with bananas and cocoa grown elsewhere on the island. The sea is calm and warm on this side of the island.
