Cap Estate occupies the northern tip of St Lucia, a hilly headland where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic. It is mostly a residential and resort district of villas, small hotels and a golf course, with winding roads, tropical gardens and, on clear days, a view of Martinique across the channel to the north.

Pigeon Island National Landmark, joined to the mainland by a causeway a short way to the west, has the ruins of Fort Rodney and two hills with views. Rodney Bay and Reduit Beach lie beyond, and Gros Islet holds a street party on Friday nights. Cas-en-Bas, on the Atlantic side, is a windy beach for kitesurfing and riding. Castries, the capital, is about fifteen kilometres south, and the Pitons are a long drive along the west coast.

St Lucian cooking is Creole: green fig and saltfish, a plate of boiled green bananas and salt cod, is the national dish, along with callaloo soup, grilled fish and bouyon, a thick stew. Rum punch and cocoa tea are the drinks.
