It is the largest lagoon in the Cordillera Blanca. It is surrounded by the most imposing Nevados (with heights greater than 6000 meters above sea level) such as the Artesonraju (Paramount Pictures Mountain, Nevado Huandoy, Piramide, Huascarán, among others. About Huaraz
Huaraz, in Peru's Ancash region, is a high mountain town beneath the snow peaks of the Cordillera Blanca, the base for trekking and climbing.
Huaraz lies at about 3,000 metres in the Callejón de Huaylas valley, between the glaciated Cordillera Blanca to the east and the drier Cordillera Negra to the west. The town was rebuilt after the 1970 earthquake, so it is modern and low-rise; its setting is the draw, with Huascarán, Peru's highest mountain at 6,768 metres, standing nearby.
