About Sucre

Sucre, the whitewashed colonial city in Bolivia's southern highlands, is the constitutional capital, with a mild climate and a calm, scholarly feel.

Sucre sits at about 2,800 metres in a valley of the Andes, and its whitewashed centre, the Ciudad Blanca, is a World Heritage site. The Casa de la Libertad on the main square, Plaza 25 de Mayo, is where Bolivia's declaration of independence was signed in 1825. The city is the constitutional capital and seat of the Supreme Court, while the government sits in La Paz. Convents, cloisters and red-tiled roofs fill the streets.

Top-ranked sights in Sucre: Museo Casa de la Libertad, Cretaceous Park (Cal Orck’o).
