Itinerary

  1. The Salar de Uyuni or “salt flats” is one of the world's highest deserts, surrounded by mountains and volcanoes that reach 5000 meters above sea level. Your tour will begin at 10:30 am from the office. The first stop will be Uyuni's 'train graveyard', to see the first locomotives in Bolivia. You’ll then visit the small settlement of Colchani (salt miners’ workshops next to the salt flats). Here, you’ll see handicrafts made of salt, and textile art made of llama and alpaca fiber. The tour will continue onto the great Salt Flats of Uyuni, which are at an altitude of 3650m. Take photos as you cruise along the vast white expanse of salt, see Los Ojos de Agua Salada (‘salt water eyes’) and then visit a hotel made completely of salt! This amazing place currently serves as a museum.

    2 h

  2. Following this jam-packed morning, after lunch you’ll carry on to “Isla Incahuasi” (Fish Island), where you will have time to take a hike to the top of the island to see giant cacti, and rock formations made of petrified coral. Make sure you and your group pose for some fun perspective- and proportion-distorted photos, taken against the backdrop of the striking white surface of the salt flats.     Then, we’ll head to a quiet place to see the beautiful sunset over the salt flats. Finish off at the village of Colchani, and finally, get back to Uyuni by 6:30 pm

  • 5Beyond Fabulous!!

Fantastic full day tour organised by Banjo Tours. Our guide, Nadia Ponce Inturias, picked us up off our flight from La Paz and with the help of Zenon, our driver, dropped us off for the fabulous Todo Tourismo overnight bus back to La Paz. Nadia possessed an excellent command of English and was extremely knowledgeable regarding the geological history that formed the flats, the wildlife and vegetation. A red wine and cold meat surprise over sunset on the flats capped a memorable day. Thanks Nadia, Zenon, and Yanet in the Banjo Office for providing us with one of our best ever tourist experiences!!

  • 2Too much crap

The driver was very very lazy and did not care. Guide was Just OK. The first half of the day was tour of slums and stops to get our $. Did not come all the way to uyuni to be driven around see their friends and try to take our $. Lunch was bad we didn’t eat it. Once we got to the salts flats it was beautiful. Do not take this tour!

  • 5Great Guide and a Great Day!

Had a very knowledgeable guide that can tell you everything you want to know and more about the history of the area. Had some red wine and chips at sun down and got to see a great sunset with a reflection! Our guide refused to stop searching until we found the perfect spot to catch the sunset with a reflection which you don't always get to see due to rain and wind conditions being unfavorable.

  • 5Salt Flats were amazing. If you have...

Salt Flats were amazing. If you have the time, 3 day tour would be great to do with Red Planet. I only had time for the one day tour and the guides were awesome. Really fun and knowledgeable. The guide took us to a secluded area on the salt flats so we would be the only one in our pictures and spent so much time taking photos and had different ideas as to what we should do and try. Great day.

About Uyuni

Uyuni is a high, dusty town on Bolivia's southern altiplano, the starting point for crossings of the vast white Salar de Uyuni salt flat.

Uyuni stands at about 3,650 metres on the southern Altiplano, a wind-swept railway town of wide streets and low buildings. Its train cemetery, a few kilometres out on the plain, holds rusting steam locomotives and carriages left from the days when British-built railways carried minerals to the Pacific. The town is the main base for visits to the Salar de Uyuni.

Top-ranked sights in Uyuni: Train Cemetery (Cementerio de Trenes), Tunupa Volcano.
