5Worth the early wake-up, Pedro and Melvin were fantastic
Melvin and Pedro were amazing. Both were very informative and attentive the whole time, and they made sure everyone in the group was looked after. Waking up very early in the morning was completely worth it. Highly recommend this experience!
5Turtles, Beach, starfish snorkel
Small group was so much better than a large group He took us to the small village to see the turtle sanctuary. He made it very personal. The Beach chairs were reserved and lunch was very good. Getting there early was key to fewer crowds. Excellent experience overall. Melvin was so kind. Give him a raise.
5Worth the extra for small group experience
Seriously perfect day on this excursion. Going to the turtle sanctuary and seeing the hatchlings might have been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. We did not want a booze cruise with 100 of our newest drunk friends. We wanted a calm and soul filling beach and tour day. This excursion totally delivered. It's a little more expensive than others to the island, but totally worth the quality of the experience.
5A++++ Fantastic
Absolutely amazing. Melvin made it a top notch experience. There were little extras the whole time. He gave an optionalchistory lesson about the Dominican Republic and Haiti that was honestly one of the best history lessons I've ever heard. He was so knowledgeable and passionate. He took us to a town that most tour guides don't take groups to, including visiting a turtle sanctuary. Amazing beach time and lunch, grilled by him. Then fantastic snorkeling. He explained everything so well and treated both the guests and his employees superbly. He took photos throughout that he shared at the end. Can't recommend him enough.
5The Best Tour Ever
This was honestly the best part of my entire trip in Punta Cana. Melvin was phenomenal and was super knowledgeable about the country’s history, current issues, and about local communities. Everything he had to say was fascinating. The transportation to Isla Saona was first via a big mini van/small bus that has both air conditioning and Wifi. Pickup for me was at 5:40am due to where my resort was located, but it was worth it because when we got to the beaches we basically had it all to ourselves before all the big party boats and noise arrived. Before the beaches we also visited the turtle sanctuary where we were able to learn about the importance of sea turtles, their history in DR, and about the Founder, Pelagio Paulino, who we also got to meet! We were lucky enough to sea baby sea turtles that had just hatched! It was incredible. The beaches and natural pools are beautiful. The local homemade style food buffet was honestly way better than my resort’s food. You can just taste that traditional Dominican sazón. Drinks such as rum, beer, water, and sodas are provided. Things I will note is that you should bring water shoes, sandals with strap, or some kind of footwear. I used water shoes as well as cushioned sandals with a strap for the walking because my feet are not the best without some type of support/cushion and it was great, no issues. There is not a lot of walking, the walk to the turtle sanctuary after arriving to the island took about 5 minutes. However, besides sand, you do walk on concrete, leaves, some rocks especially in the ocean, etc. If you have bad knees or bad feet, I think you’ll be okay. The hardest part is probably getting on and off the speedboat since you have to step over the boat’s rear ledge, but the boat captain and other employees are there to help you get on and off. To get to the island takes about 30min from the port and then the rides to the other beaches and natural pools are much shorter, maybe about 10-15min. At the beaches there are beach chairs but no towels are provided, so bring your own towel! This is definitely NOT a party boat type of vibe, so if you’re looking for a big group with loud music and partying/dancing, I don’t think this tour is for you. This tour is more of a peaceful, relaxing, vibe with history mixed in and also visiting the only part of isla Saona that has people living in it, which other tours do not do. If you’re wondering if the money is worth it, I personally think it is, not only for the experience, but also because part of the money goes to the local community in Isla Saona. This is a tour I definitely recommend and would honestly do again.
5Great trip
I had the best time in this trip as a female solo traveller. Everything was just spot on. I have no complaints, I felt safe at all times and trip was absolutely stunning, more than worth the money, Melvin and his crew were great people.

About Punta Cana
Punta Cana, on the Dominican Republic's eastern tip, is a coast of palm-lined white beaches, calm reef-protected water and easygoing island days.
The area stretches along a long sweep of coastline, from Bávaro Beach and Cabeza de Toro to Macao and Uvero Alto, where coconut palms lean over soft white sand. Coral reefs offshore keep the water calm and clear in many spots, ideal for swimming, snorkelling and catamaran outings along the shore.
