Itinerary
Once you arrive in Santiago Atitlan, our expert guide will be waiting for you to start this adventure. We want this to be an experience where you have contact with the people of the community and for this, we will take you with a resident of Santiago Atitlan, he will take us on his Kayuko (artisanal boat with paddle) and take us to the planting area.
Planting Area: When we get to the plantation area, you will see the incredible plant located on the shores around the entire Lake Atitlan. We talk about the Tul plant. This is of great importance for the community since it helps to fight the bacteria that attack the lake, it also works as a natural filter and helps to purify the water, in addition to being the habitat of different marine animals and birds. We cannot ignore the importance of this plant for the indigenous community since with it they make different crafts such as rugs, baskets, among others. The handicrafts help people in the community with economic income and tourists who buy souvenirs to make memories of their visit to Guatemala.
After the plantation tour, we will return to the town of Santiago, where we will show you the different crafts made with the Tul plant. After our tour, you can take advantage of your trip to Santiago Atitlan to walk through the town and learn about its lovely culture.

About San Pedro La Laguna
San Pedro La Laguna is a Tz'utujil Maya town on Lake Atitlán in Guatemala's highlands, below the San Pedro volcano, known for Spanish schools and coffee.
San Pedro La Laguna sits on the south-western shore of Lake Atitlán, a deep volcanic lake ringed by steep green hills and three volcanoes. The town is home to the Tz'utujil Maya, and women in woven blouses sell fruit and vegetables at the market. Boats connect it with other lake villages, and the San Pedro volcano rises behind, a hike of several hours to a summit at about 3,000 metres.
