Highlights

Step into the breathtaking landscapes of Guatemala’s Ring of Fire, a country blessed with more than 37 volcanoes, each with its own beauty and character. Among them, Pacaya Volcano is one of the most welcoming and accessible to visitors. Known for its gentle slopes, fascinating lava rock formations, and spectacular views, Pacaya offers an unforgettable hiking experience that’s suitable for all adventure levels. Although it is a living volcano, its activity is of the Strombolian and occasionally Plinian, carefully monitored, making it a safe and unique way to experience Guatemala’s volcanic wonders up close. Rising to about 8,000 feet above sea level, Pacaya is an ideal destination for travelers seeking an easy to moderate ascent with epic panoramic views. Along the way, we’ll pause at steam vents and hot old lava pockets where you can roast marshmallows, a tradition that’s as fun as it is unique. At the top, we’ll prepare a special picnic for you

  2. We'll start our hike at approximately 1,900 meters (6,300 feet) above sea level. The trail has some steep sections, but we'll take it at a relaxed pace, with plenty of stops to rest, enjoy the scenery, and breathe in the fresh mountain air. Depending on your pace, the ascent may take 1.5 to 2.5 hours, remember there's no rush, it's not a race! The effort will be well worth it when we reach the closest point to the crater.

    1.5 h

  3. At the summit, we wil have our time to absorb the unique energy of this living volcano. Surrounded by panoramic views and the raw beauty of cooled lava fields, you'll feel just how alive and majestic nature can be. We'll spend about an hour here, enjoying both the scenery and a Delicious volcano-cooked picnic before beginning our descent.

About Antigua

Antigua Guatemala is a colonial city of cobbled streets, ruined churches and pastel façades, ringed by three volcanoes in the Guatemalan highlands.

Antigua was the capital of Spanish Guatemala until earthquakes in 1773 led to the move of the government to the present capital. The grid of cobbled streets and low colonial houses survived, together with the ruins of grand churches and convents, and the town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The yellow Santa Catalina Arch, with its clock tower, frames Volcán de Agua at the end of a street.

Top-ranked sights in Antigua: Antigua Central Park (Parque Central), Cerro de la Cruz (Hill of the Cross), La Merced Church (Iglesia de la Merced).
