  • 5The tour gave a glimpse...

The tour gave a glimpse into the life of a resident from the kibera slums. Elijah, our guide, was kind, interesting and answered all questions. I would recommend wearing close toed shoes with good traction. Many of the paths were bumpy and muddy.

Very well organized. The guide was very friendly, kind, and pleasant. It was also an opportunity to see a different way of life. I recommend that everyone take this tour.

  • 5Excellent experience.

Very enlightening. Denish Aoko with Aoko Tours and Collins Wasonga with AGAPE -Hope for Kinera, were GREAT. I saw and experienced so much more than I expected. It was very safe and interesting. Denish and Collins had relationships with many people, so the experience was much deeper than I expected. The work Collins is doing there is very much needed. I met teachers, students, vendors and very much enjoyed the experience. Words and pictures cannot do the experience justice. You must see it, hear it, and feel it!

  • 5An experience everyone should have

I can't recommend visiting Kibera enough, even with children. If more folks would do so, and get a glimpse into the lives of others, our planet would be much better off.

  • 5This tour was fantastic. ...

This tour was fantastic. We went through many areas even Nairobi friends didn't know existed. I felt safe and my friends said all the kids were so sweet to them

  • 5An Eye-Opening and Meaningful Experience

This was one of the most meaningful experiences of my time in Nairobi. Lucas and Effie were outstanding guides: warm, knowledgeable, and deeply connected to the community. Rather than simply touring Kibera, they provided thoughtful historical and cultural context while introducing us to local organizations, businesses and community members who are creating positive change. What stood out most was the opportunity to see Kibera through the perspective of people who live and work there. The experience challenged stereotypes and highlighted the resilience, creativity and strong sense of community that exist throughout the neighborhood. I left with a much deeper understanding of Kibera and a genuine appreciation for the community and important work being done there. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Nairobi who wants an authentic, respectful and educational introduction to one of the city's most vibrant communities.

About Nairobi

Nairobi is Kenya's energetic capital and the starting point for East African safari, with a national park where wildlife roams beneath the city skyline.

Nairobi National Park lies just beyond the suburbs, and its lions, rhinos, giraffes and buffalo can be seen with skyscrapers on the horizon. Close by, an orphanage raises young elephants rescued from across Kenya, and the Giraffe Centre lets visitors meet rare Rothschild's giraffes eye to eye from a raised platform.
