Swayambhunath Temple is one of the most historically lingering religious sites in Nepal. Situated west of central Kathmandu, it is constructed atop a hill with numerous steps leading towards the central part of the temple. The main highlight is the clear panoramic view of the entire Kathmandu valley along with the huge wall of hills surrounding it, which can’t be seen from anywhere else.
The Kathmandu Durbar Square, an ancient palace, is one of the most noteworthy places in the Kathmandu valley. Here, you can also explore the bustling Basantapur area and the iconic stature of the Kasthamandap which is also one of the oldest surviving buildings in the valley to date.
Located 3 miles (5km) northeast of the central Kathmandu city, the Boudhanath stupa is 390 feet (120 meters) in diameter and is considered one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world. This stupa has an immense cultural and religious importance and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
Pashupatinath Temple, is considered to be the holiest Hindu shrine in Nepal. Constructed in the early 5th century, the Pashupatinath Temple is a religious mecca where travelers can gain an enormous amount of religious, cultural and spiritual experiences. Alongside that, you can observe Hindu sadhus, markets filled with people and monkeys while enjoying the harmonic presence of exotic cultural significance.

About Kathmandu
Kathmandu is Nepal's ancient, colourful capital, a valley city of temples, stupas and royal squares and the gateway to the Himalaya.
Kathmandu Durbar Square, the old royal square, is crowded with pagoda-roofed temples and palaces, and nearby lives the Kumari, the city's living child goddess. Thamel, the travellers' quarter, is a tangle of lanes selling trekking gear, prayer flags and handicrafts, busy with cafés and rooftop restaurants.
Top-ranked sights in Kathmandu: Namche Bazaar, Pashupatinath, Kathmandu Durbar Square (Basantapur).
