Experience the best of Pokhara
Pokhara is a lakeside city in central Nepal, with Phewa Lake and the Annapurna peaks above it, and the starting point for classic Himalayan treks.

Pokhara lies in a valley at about 800 metres, with Phewa Lake at its heart. Wooden boats cross to the small Tal Barahi temple on an island, and the Lakeside district is a strip of cafés, shops and guesthouses. On clear mornings the Annapurna range and the sharp pyramid of Machapuchare, 'Fishtail', rise above the water, startlingly close to a lowland town.
The World Peace Pagoda on a ridge above the lake gives views of the water and the peaks, while Sarangkot, a hilltop viewpoint, is a favourite for sunrise and paragliding. Davi's Falls vanishes into a deep gorge, the Gupteshwor cave has a Shiva shrine, and the International Mountain Museum explains Himalayan climbing. Begnas and Rupa lakes are quieter, and treks to Poon Hill and Annapurna Base Camp start from nearby trailheads.
Meals are dal bhat, rice with lentils and vegetables, and steamed momo dumplings, with thukpa noodle soup, fresh lake fish and sweet masala tea. Tibetan refugee settlements add their own foods and craft shops. Autumn, from October to November, has the clearest skies, and March and April bring flowering rhododendrons. The monsoon from June to September is wet, with clouded mountains.
