1. You want to hike further into the glacier than most of the other tours do. You are hoping to get close to the ice fall of Falljökull, outlet glacier of Vatnajökull (the largest glacier in Europe). You wish to have a breathtaking view on the crevasses. This is tour is made for you than! We will drive you all the way to the glacier, teach you how to put on crampons and how to use an ice axe and then we will guide you through the labyrint of crevasses, moulins and water streams of the glacier. We are not gonna rush our way to the ice fall, so you will have time to get used to walking on crampons. We will do many stops on the way to explain all about how glaciers are formed, about their history and also a little bit about the area of Skaftafell and Örævi. Of course the guide will assist you with taking many photos from this adventure.

• 5Hike 10/10 Guides even better !!

  This tour is a MUST! Our guides Camille and Vincenzo were incredible. They were very informative and accommodating to our pace. The views were so amazing and each of the guides took us to their own special view points which felt very personal and unique! The hike up was a bit strenuous at times but if you’re a seasoned hiker or active it wont break you. I would bring gloves with grips, a beanie or ear cover, and shoes with ankle support. They provide a harness, crampons, an ice pick, and a helmet. If you want to see the glaciers up close and personal you definitely need to book this tour, it won’t do it justice from the ground!

• 5Awesome adventure travel experience

  Amazing experience for our family of three. We got way up on the glacier, unbelievable views. We were in great hands with our guide Anya, who showed us the technical ropes, made sure everything was safe, while still keeping it fun. Would highly recommend to families looking to get up close with Iceland's glaciers and experience some epic adventure travel.

• 5Private tour - exceptionnal experience

  Unique experience with Vincenzo who brought our family on a 3.5hrs hike across the glacier: he adapted the pace and path throughout to match our interests and skills, and overall made this a truly special experience. Looking at other large size groups, we were really happy to have selected Melrakki Adventures which limits their group size to a max of 8 people and bring us much closer to the glacier then other companies (more time spent hiking on the ice!). Strongly recommend.

  Thoroughly enjoyed this activity. Wonderful way to get onto the glacier and explore all it has to offer. Reasonably challenging. Not an activity for those with mobility issues. Our guide was Hugo was fabulous. Highly recommend this.

• 5The best day out!

  Worth every penny! The guides were so knowledgeable and attentive. Felt like we had new friends by the end of the trip. A lot of thought is put into these trips and the team did everything they could to ensure we had the best experience. Communication was fantastic too. The tour took about 5hours or more, we walked around 5k to the ABC caves. It was magical. Would 100% recommend and go back!

• 5Unforgettable glacier hike with Jose

  Hands down one of the highlights of our trip! We did the 5-hour glacier hike with Jose and loved every minute. He made sure we were well taken care of the whole way. Driving right up to the glacier (instead of hiking the long approach) was such a bonus. The blue crevices and views from the top were breathtaking. Can’t recommend it enough!

About Skaftafell

Skaftafell is a green pocket of Vatnajökull National Park in south-east Iceland, with glacier tongues, the Svartifoss waterfall and walking trails.

Skaftafell is a green oasis in south-east Iceland, set between black sand plains and the white ice of Vatnajökull, Europe's largest ice cap by volume. It forms part of Vatnajökull National Park, and from the visitor centre trails lead through birch scrub and heather to glacier tongues and waterfalls. The Skaftafellsjökull, an outlet glacier, is in view from several paths, and the huge outwash plain of Skeiðarársandur stretches to the coast.
