Itinerary
Petra, the Rose-Red City, was the impressive capital of the Nabataean kingdom whose ruins remained hidden to most of the world until the Swiss explorer, JL Burckhardt, disguised as an Arab scholar, infiltrated the city in 1812. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Meet your private guide at the site and hike or ride a horse down to the entrance of the Siq, a long, winding sandstone canyon that leads to the Treasury. The tour continues to the Street of Facades, the Roman Theater and the Royal Tombs. Note that travel time is 3 hours driving from Amman to Petra and another 3 hours back.

About Amman
Amman, Jordan's capital, spreads across a series of hills, with Roman ruins, crowded downtown souks and a warm welcome at the start of any Jordan journey.
The Amman Citadel crowns Jabal al-Qal'a with the Temple of Hercules, the Umayyad Palace and sweeping views over the city. Below, the Roman Theatre, carved into the hillside, seats thousands, and the downtown souks around the Grand Husseini Mosque sell spices, gold and sweets, with the scent of coffee and cardamom in the air.
Top-ranked sights in Amman: Petra, Jerash (Gerasa), Ajloun Castle.
