It’s a low-key place with an appealing blend of African and Asian influences and a self-sufficient, prosperous feel, due in large part to its being the centre of one of Tanzania’s major coffee-growing regions. Virtually all visitors are here to climb Mt Kilimanjaro or to recover after having done so. Yet there's much more to do, including cultural tours and hikes on the mountain's lower slopes.

About Moshi
Moshi is a friendly market town on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro, the main base for climbing Africa's highest mountain.
Kilimanjaro's snow-capped summit towers over the town on clear mornings, and Moshi is where most climbers prepare and later celebrate. Routes such as Marangu and Machame start at park gates a short drive away, while Lemosho sets off from the far western side of the mountain, climbing through farmland, rainforest, heath and alpine desert to the glaciers near Uhuru Peak.
Top-ranked sights in Moshi: Materuni Waterfall, Lake Chala, Kikuletwa Hot Springs (Chemka Hot Springs).
