It was built by Nipponzan-Myōhōji monk Morioka Sonin with local supporters under the guidance of Nichidatsu Fujii, a Buddhist monk and the founder of Nipponzan-Myōhōji. Shanti, the Sanskrit word that does mean peace, also widely used in the Nepali and Hindi languages, indicates Peace Pagoda as it was built as a symbol of peace. One can see the total ranges of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna including the beautiful peak Machhapuchhere, the Fishtail. We can drive or hike up to the Peace Pagoda and can visit Davi's Fall and Guptashwar on the way back.

About Pokhara

Pokhara is a lakeside city in central Nepal, with Phewa Lake and the Annapurna peaks above it, and the starting point for classic Himalayan treks.

Pokhara lies in a valley at about 800 metres, with Phewa Lake at its heart. Wooden boats cross to the small Tal Barahi temple on an island, and the Lakeside district is a strip of cafés, shops and guesthouses. On clear mornings the Annapurna range and the sharp pyramid of Machapuchare, 'Fishtail', rise above the water, startlingly close to a lowland town.

Top-ranked sights in Pokhara: Sarangkot , Phewa Lake.
