Experience the best of West End

West End sits at the far western tip of Grand Bahama, roughly 108 km east of West Palm Beach in Florida across the Gulf Stream. It is one of the oldest settlements on the island and was a base for rum-runners during Prohibition. Today it is a quiet fishing community of small restaurants, marinas and boats, far calmer than the resort areas around Freeport to the east.

Shallow, clear water over sand and reef around the island's western end suits snorkelling, diving and fishing. Freeport and Lucaya lie along the island's main road to the east, and Lucayan National Park, with limestone caves and a mangrove creek, is further on.

Cracked conch, conch salad and fritters, along with grilled grouper and snapper, are the local staples, served at waterside shacks. The weather is warm all year: December to April is the driest and most comfortable time, while June to November is hot, humid and the hurricane season.
