Experience the best of Great Exuma

Great Exuma is a long, low island in the Out Islands of the Bahamas, linked by a bridge to Little Exuma and sheltering the harbour of George Town, the district capital, on its southern side. Settlements of pastel houses, small churches and roadside stands line the single main road, with the sea always close.

Elizabeth Harbour, off George Town, is a popular anchorage for yachts, with Stocking Island across the water. Tropic of Cancer Beach, on Little Exuma, marks where the line crosses the islands. To the north, the Exuma Cays form a chain of small islands and sand bars; the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park protects their reefs, and Big Major Cay is known for its swimming pigs.

Conch salad prepared fresh at roadside stands, cracked conch, grilled snapper and rum cake are the staples, and traditional sloop racing is celebrated at the family island regatta in spring. Winters are dry and warm.
