Experience the best of Mġarr

Mġarr is a small village in the north-west of Malta, with a parish church and a scatter of farms and fields on rolling land. Ta' Ħaġrat and Skorba, two Neolithic temple sites older than the pyramids of Egypt, stand in the fields on its edge and are part of the World Heritage listing of Malta's megalithic temples.

A short drive west, the sandy beaches of Golden Bay and Għajn Tuffieħa lie below steep cliffs, with the remains of Roman baths above Għajn Tuffieħa, and Ġnejna Bay is a small cove under the cliffs. The ferry to Gozo leaves from Ċirkewwa, a short drive north, and arrives at Mġarr Harbour, a second Mġarr, on the neighbouring island.

Maltese food is Mediterranean farm cooking: ftira bread with tomato, capers and tuna, rabbit stew, ġbejniet, small sheep's cheeses, and honey rings for dessert. The island climate is mild, with warm summers and short, wet winters.
