Experience the best of Grand Anse

Grand Anse is both a bay and the resort district around it on the south-west coast of Grenada, the Spice Island. The beach runs for about three kilometres in a gentle curve of pale sand and calm water, with palms along the edge, and with hotels, beach bars and small shops behind. Sailboats ride at anchor offshore, and the sun sets over the Caribbean Sea in the evening.

St George's, the island's capital, is a short drive north, with its harbour, forts and red-roofed houses. Along the coast the beaches at Morne Rouge and Magazine are quieter, and an underwater sculpture park lies off Molinere Bay. Inland, the Grand Etang crater lake sits in the forested hills, Annandale Falls tumbles through tropical gardens, and chocolate and nutmeg estates show how the island's spices are grown.

Oil down, a one-pot stew of breadfruit, salted meat, dumplings and coconut milk, is the national dish. Nutmeg, cinnamon, mace and cloves flavour everything from rum punch to ice cream, and cocoa becomes local chocolate. The dry season from January to May is the sunniest.
