The Baburizza Palace is a building built in 1916 on Cerro Alegre in the Chilean city of Valparaíso by the Italian architects Arnaldo Barison and Renato Schiavon for the Zanelli family. Valparaíso is Chile's Pacific port, a city of brightly painted houses and old funiculars climbing steep hills above a curved bay.
The historic quarter of Valparaíso, a World Heritage Site, is spread over dozens of hills that fall steeply to the sea. Houses in every colour cling to the slopes, walls are covered in murals, and old funiculars known as ascensores still carry passengers between the port and the hilltops. Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción are the best known of the hills, with cafés, galleries and lookouts over the bay.
Top-ranked sights in Valparaíso: Plaza Sotomayor, Cerro Concepcion, Ascensor El Peral.
