5Wonderful Mardi Himal trek with Doma Sherpa
I did a private Mardi Himal trek with Nepal Wilderness Trekking as a solo traveller, with Doma Sherpa as my guide, and I couldn't have asked for better. Rather than sticking to their standard 5-day plan, Himal tailored the trek to my dates and interests, extending it with a route through the traditional villages of Landruk and Ghandruk on the way down. He was easy to deal with throughout, and flexible about payment. I'm the kind of trekker who likes to focus on the trail and walk at a fast pace, and Doma respected that completely. Her pacing suited me perfectly. She also struck exactly the right balance between us: professional and friendly, never too chatty and never distant. For a solo trekker, that made the whole trip very comfortable. She was attentive from start to finish. Even at mealtimes, she always checked that my food was okay and that I had enough to eat, which meant a lot on the trail. Thanks to her, I had no difficulties at all during the trek. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the Jhinu hot spring part of the itinerary because of a problem there. This was completely out of her control, and it was a shame to miss it, but it didn't take anything away from the experience. If you're looking for a caring, reliable guide in the Annapurna region, I highly recommend asking for Doma.
5Top tier experience with Naman
Naman Tamang was amazing. Very helpful, kind and made the trek a once in a lifetime experience. Would recommend highly!
5Wonderful Mardi Himal Trek with Guide Narman & Porter Sudip
The Mardi Himal Trek is one of the most beautiful treks - where you will see bamboo forests, alpine grasslands, yak cattle and majestic views of the Annapurna range. This would not have been possible without guide Narman and porter Sudip. Narman was a patient, meticulous and caring guide who takes care of all our safety and logistical needs. Despite the crowded trek where most of the guesthouses are full, he always ensured that our accommodations had private rooms for us and had the best sunrise views. He also went the extra mile to make sure that we sleep and eat healthily. Narman was also knowledgeable, where he shared useful hiking tips - from pacing ourselves to getting the correct SIM cards when hiking in the Himalayas. He was also encouraging and motivated us throughout the trek. He maintained strong positivity and made sure that we keep our spirits up despite the challenge. Porter Sudip was also kind and caring. Not only did he help us carry our logistics, he also worked closely with guide Narman to secure our accomodations and meals. Overall, we had an amazing trek with unbelievably beautiful mountain views throughout. We will definitely come to Nepal again.
5Mardi Himal, 5 Days
What an amazing experience it was! My Guide was Lal Gurung and I always felt very safe with hin, he explained a lot about Nepalese culture and knew all the mountains we saw and their exact hight. The teahauses we stayed in were also very welcoming and offered delicious food. Since we hiked relatively fast I feel like the hike could have been done in 3 or 4 days (we had one day with only 1.5 hours of walking and on the last day also only about one hour). But since it has been raining every afternoon/evening the timing was almost perfect. I can highly recommend this trek: it's not too hard but the mountainviews are stunning, especially on day 4 when we hiked to the view point and base camp at sunrise.
1Terrible experience
I consider myself an experienced hiker. I have done multi-day backpacking in the USA (2 days, unguided), in Vietnam (2 days, guided), in Costa Rica (3 days, guided) and done full day hikes in many different countries. So my friend and I decided to book a 3 day guided trek with this company. At this point, I am very aware of my capabilities as a hiker as well as my physical limitations. The manager, Himal, did not give accurate information about trail conditions when I sent the initial inquiry. I specifically asked if there were many stairs, because although I can manage uphill and downhill rocky slopes well, stairs are difficult for my knees. He told me that there were only some stairs on the first day, and then a “gradual, steady ascent”for the remaining days. This seemed perfect, and my friend and I booked the trek and paid a deposit. It was 3 days of stone stairs. Half of the hike (55-60%) were stairs. And then stairs all the way downhill. My knees were in pain. My poor guide, Tashi, had to carry my backpack for me and provide physical support (I was physically leaning on him). Days later, my knees are still hurting. Interesting to note, the guide Tashi actually told me that all the trails were like this (stairs), which is infuriating because Himal never told me this. Something else he didnt mention prior to accepting our money…this particular trek is meant to be done in 5 days. In fact, everyone we spoke to regarding the hike afterwards told us that a 3-day trek was quite aggressive for the route that we took. We told Himal that we were considering a 3-day hike, and he shoved a 5-day hike into 3 days in order to take our money instead of honestly warning us about the potential difficulty, given the physical limitations I’d already told him about. When I emailed the manager to demand an explanation, he admitted that he gave me wrong information (!). I encourage people to not book with this company, unless they are comfortable with the risk of being lied to. I will say, the Porter Narsing and guide Tashi were incredible despite the circumstances. I wish them the best.
5A wonderful and beautiful trekking experience in Nepal
This was my first multi-day trek (The Mardi Himal 5 days Trek), and thanks to the excellent support of our guide, Pasang, I was able to return to Pokhara safely. It was an unforgettable experience and really fun trek. I would like to express my gratitude once again to the new friends I met during this trek. See you!
Pokhara is a lakeside city in central Nepal, with Phewa Lake and the Annapurna peaks above it, and the starting point for classic Himalayan treks.
Pokhara lies in a valley at about 800 metres, with Phewa Lake at its heart. Wooden boats cross to the small Tal Barahi temple on an island, and the Lakeside district is a strip of cafés, shops and guesthouses. On clear mornings the Annapurna range and the sharp pyramid of Machapuchare, 'Fishtail', rise above the water, startlingly close to a lowland town.
Top-ranked sights in Pokhara: Sarangkot , Phewa Lake.
