  This was by far the best surfing lesson my friends and I have had since travelling Australia. The instructor was so attentive and we had the best time. I would travel back to Byron bay just to surf here again.

  Fantastic owner Tam, who runs the show, and terrific surfing coach Kirsty who could have not been more fun or patient. Great experience. So good we went back the next day for another session.

  What a great time surfing! My 16 and 13 year old sons went surfing in a group lesson, and had a great time! Tour included a van ride from shop to the beach, Board and rash guard, trip back to shop and popcorn. Lots of instruction happened on the beach before getting into the water. Once in the water the surfing started right away. Everyone in the group got up and had success very quickly. Instructor was great! Very encouraging and always available with a positive comment about the run. Would highly recommend using BlackDog Surf School!

• 5Best Surf School ever

  Simply the best Surf School in Byron. We started coming to Byron in 2006 with four very young children and looked around for instructors to teach them how to surf. We were so fortunate to meet Dean and Tam who run Black Dog Surfing. Our children visit Byron often and have gained so much knowledge from the Black Dog Surf team over the years. No matter how busy the schedule is Dean always finds time to squeeze in lessons for us and our friends with either him or his amazing instructors. We will continue to keep visiting Byron and keep asking Black Dog to take care of our friends and family learning to surf here. Thanks for the decades of amazing surf instruction and great friendships too. Keep up the great work.

• 5Best Surf Lesson in Bryon

  Had a great experience today with BlackDog surfing. Tam was so friendly and made it super easy to book! Kirsty was an excellent instructor, very patient with us as newbie surfers and we were able to get up on the board. Great time, would recommend!

About Byron Bay

Byron Bay is a relaxed coastal town in northern New South Wales, with surf beaches, a historic lighthouse and the easternmost point of mainland Australia.

Cape Byron, the easternmost point of mainland Australia, has a white lighthouse from 1901 and a walking track around the headland, where dolphins swim below and humpback whales pass offshore on their winter and spring migrations. The town has a long, gently curving beach, with surfers at The Pass and quieter sand at Wategos. Offshore, the Julian Rocks marine reserve draws divers to see turtles, rays and, in season, sharks.
