Fuji Sengen Shrine is one of the important shrines of Japanese Shintoism, mainly worshipping the volcano god of Mount Fuji. Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha is a shrine in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is the head shrine of the Sengen Shrine and the center of Mount Fuji worship. The main deity is Konohana no Sakuyahime (Asama Okami). Legend has it that it was built by Sakanoue Tamuramaro at the order of Emperor Heijo in 806 AD. The shrine was revered by many famous samurai in the Middle Ages, such as Minamoto no Yoritomo and Takeda Shingen.
