Points forts
This activity offers an authentic immersion into everyday life in Mérida through its gastronomy and traditions. It begins at Lucas de Gálvez Market, one of the city’s most iconic markets, where you will explore colorful aisles filled with aromas and fresh local products. There, you will learn about regional ingredients, taste traditional flavors, and, together with your guide, select the items you will later use in the cooking experience. You will then travel by public transportation, just as locals do, to continue to a local home. In this warm, family-style setting, your host will welcome you for a hands-on cooking experience, where you will learn step by step how to prepare a traditional Yucatecan dish. Throughout the process, you will discover stories, techniques, and customs that are an essential part of the region’s cultural identity. At the end, you will enjoy the meal you prepared, accompanied by refreshing drinks and a warm, shared experience.

About Mérida
Mérida, capital of Yucatán, is a Spanish colonial city of grand boulevards and mansions, a base for Maya ruins, cenotes and flamingo lagoons.
Francisco de Montejo the Younger founded Mérida in 1542 on the site of a Maya town, and stone from its temples went into the cathedral and houses. The Plaza Grande is the heart of the city, with the cathedral of San Ildefonso, the Governor's Palace, whose walls are covered by murals of Maya history, and the Casa de Montejo, with an ornate carved façade. The low colonial houses of the centre gave the city its nickname, the White City.
Top-ranked sights in Mérida: Chacchoben, Merida Cathedral (Catedral de San Ildefonso), Main Square (Plaza Grande).
