Points forts

Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse sits at the tip of a spectacular peninsula where the Southern and Indian Oceans meet. Situated at the most south westerly point of Australia, on one of the world's three great capes, Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia. Guided tours will take you to the top of this historic lighthouse, where you’ll learn fascinating stories about the lightkeepers, the region’s maritime heritage, and the tower’s unique craftsmanship. From the top, you can take in spectacular views of the cape and its rugged coastline. Visitors can also explore the Interpretive Centre, housed inside one of the original lightkeeper’s cottages, an immersive experience that celebrates the history and lives of the men, women and children who once lived at the tallest lighthouse in mainland Australia.  Passes to explore the accessible heritage site and Lightkeeper's Cottage are available for purchase on site.

Itinéraire

  1. Your guide will take you on a trip through maritime history as you wind your way up the spiral staircase inside the lighthouse tower. This famous landmark was constructed from locally quarried limestone in 1895; and still functions as a vital working lighthouse for vessels navigating the treacherous cape. Discover the importance of Cape Leeuwin to early mariners and hear stories of the hardships faced by the early lighthouse keepers and their families.   Once at the top of the tower you will be awed by views over the immense ocean, crashing waves and wilderness of the landscape. There are regular sightings of dolphins and you may even spot whales migrating between May and September.  The spectacular surroundings are enhanced by the beautifully restored keepers’ cottages. Plan time to include a walk around the grounds and enjoy the spectacular surrounds at this beautiful heritage site. Complete your visit by relaxing over coffee and home-made refreshments at the Cape Leeuwin Cafe.

  • 4WA wallet always

Overpriced for what it is when you already pay for national park entry especially for a family. Disappointed there is no family pass/discount. WA- wallet always!

  • 5Amazing spot

Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is absolutely worth the drive down to Augusta. The location is spectacular, right at the most south-westerly point of mainland Australia where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet. The lighthouse itself is beautiful, but it’s really the setting that makes the visit. Rugged coastline, huge ocean views and plenty of great spots for photos. I spent quite a bit of time just wandering around and taking it all in. Well maintained, interesting history and a great addition to a Margaret River trip. Even if you’re not particularly interested in lighthouses, the scenery alone makes it worth visiting.

  • 5Our great escape around south west WA

Great experience, learnt heaps about the lighthouse, how it was constructed. There are 172 steps that take you 39 metres up. The views from the lighthouse viewing platform are spectacular. The experience is well worth the money. The winds the day we went were 68 kph. Our guide told us the fastest recorded was 172 kph. Wecrecommendvitvtobsnyone considering it.

About Busselton

Busselton is a seaside town on Geographe Bay in Western Australia, known for its very long timber jetty and as a gateway to Margaret River.

Busselton lies on the sheltered, shallow water of Geographe Bay in the south-west corner of Western Australia, south of Perth. Its landmark is the Busselton Jetty, almost two kilometres long and one of the longest timber-piled jetties in the world. A small train runs along it, and at the far end an underwater observatory looks onto corals, sponges and fish that have settled on the piles.
