About Kiruna
Kiruna is Sweden's northernmost town, an Arctic mining town in Lapland with northern lights, midnight sun, Sami culture and high mountains nearby.
Kiruna lies in Swedish Lapland, well north of the Arctic Circle, in a landscape of birch forest, lakes and low mountains. The town grew around the Kiirunavaara iron mine at the start of the twentieth century, and the mine still shapes it. Its wooden church, designed by Gustaf Wickman and built in 1912, takes the form of a Sami hut, and the town's streets curve around the hillside.
