Itinerary

  1. The Emberá Indigenous people are one of Panama’s most vibrant native cultures, living along the rivers of the Darién region and the Chagres rainforest. Rivers shape their daily life and transportation, and visitors arrive by traditional dugout canoe. Their cuisine features fresh river fish, plantains, rice, and tropical fruits, often cooked in banana leaves. Known for colorful clothing, jagua body art, music, and dance, the Emberá preserve traditions deeply connected to nature and their ancestors.

  2. Lake Alajuela, also known as Lago Alajuela or formerly Madden Lake, is a large artificial reservoir in central Panama created in 1935 by the construction of Madden Dam on the Chagres River. The lake is one of the main freshwater sources supporting the Panama Canal and supplies a significant portion of drinking water for Panama City.

About Panama City

Panama City is the capital at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal, with a colonial old quarter, a glittering skyline and rainforest at its edge.

Panama City sits on the Pacific coast beside the entrance to the Panama Canal, and ships queue in the bay for the passage. The Miraflores Locks, a short drive from the centre, let visitors watch vessels being raised and lowered. Casco Viejo, the old quarter founded in 1673, has restored colonial plazas, churches and balconied houses, and the Amador Causeway runs out into the bay with views back to the skyline.

Top-ranked sights in Panama City: Casco Viejo, Panama Canal, Amador Causeway (Calzada de Amador).
