About Islamabad

Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, is a planned green city at the foot of the Margalla Hills, with a vast modern mosque and tree-lined streets.

Islamabad was designed in the early 1960s by the Greek planner Constantinos Doxiadis as a grid of numbered sectors, and replaced Karachi as the capital. It lies below the Margalla Hills, the foothills of the Himalayas, a green backdrop to the city. The Faisal Mosque, a modern tent-shaped building with four tall minarets, is one of the largest mosques in the world and dominates the skyline.
