Itinerary

  1. Take a ride on the traditional Bamboo Train, a bamboo platform laid over 2 sets of wheels on a single track. In the old days this was used to transport goods between Battambang and Phnom Penh and was a typical mode of transport for farmers and villagers. Today, it takes you through the beautiful countryside to a little village you can explore on foot before returning to your starting point.

    2 hAdmission included

  2. Climb the 365 stairs to marvel at Wat Banan, an Angkor era temple which sits on top of a hill close to the Sanker river. Banan is seldom frequented by tourists and outside of Cambodian holidays it is likely that you may be the only visitor.

    2 hAdmission included

  3. Scale the side of a mountain leading to the 'secret bat cave' just before sunset where you will sit atop the mountain waiting for the millions of bats located inside the cave to awake. Marvel as this seemingly never-ending stream of fruit bats fly out of the cave and off into the countryside for their evening meal.

    3 hAdmission included

  4. The Bat Cave shows an amazing spectacle at around 5 pm each day - thousands of bats leave their cave as dusk falls, beginning their nocturnal hunting. A black streak stretched among the sky, vibrating with sound waves, before dispersing on the horizon illuminated by starlight. A steady stream flying out for around 45 minutes then back to their caves.

About Siem Reap

Siem Reap is the riverside town beside Angkor, Cambodia's vast complex of Khmer temples, with night markets, river walks and a relaxed centre.

Angkor Wat, often called the largest religious monument in the world, rises above its moat in a silhouette of lotus-bud towers that is breathtaking at sunrise. Nearby, the walled city of Angkor Thom holds the Bayon, with its more than two hundred serene stone faces, the Terrace of the Elephants and the Baphuon, while Ta Prohm is gripped by the roots of giant silk-cotton and strangler fig trees.

Top-ranked sights in Siem Reap: Angkor Thom, Tonlé Sap, Kampong Phluk.
