  • 5If you are a dog lover, don't miss this!

This originally was one of those "filler" activities that we put into our schedule that unexpectedly turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. It was a fantastic experience! My husband and I are dog lovers and have three Siberians of our own. We are well versed in Siberian Husky conformation and the dogs at this farm are extremely well put together and in fantastic condition. Not to mention their temperaments are impeccable. They day we went, it was near freezing, misting, with a lot of wind, but we never even noticed it. You are given an insulated suit and gloves to keep you warm (and clean!). We spend around 45 minutes on the dry land sled and were highly impressed by the strength of the dogs. When we returned, we were able to spend time playing with the dogs and even helped remove their harnesses. The owner spent over two hours with us happily showing us all around and answering a million questions. I was fascinated by their routines, feeding, training, etc. If you are curious about how it feels to be pulled on a sled by a bunch of dogs, go ahead and book it! You will not be disappointed!

I cannot say enough about this experience - it was magical! The best part of our Icelandic experience. The staff was fantastic and shared their knowledge and the dogs were amazing - you can tell how much they are cared for and loved. I cannot recommend this enough to anyone wanting an adventure who also loves dog cuddles!!

  • 5It's all about these wonderful dogs.

Fantastic to spend time with such happy, well cared for dogs. The sled ride on the frozen lake was a joyful and peaceful delight but the added bonus was spending so much time among the dogs, watching their life and learning about them. Everything is well thought out, from the layout of the dogs accommodation to the overalls, goggles and shoe spikes provided for visitors. Can't recommend this highly enough and hope to return in the future to support the owner and her team.

About Reykjahlíð

Reykjahlíð is the main village on Lake Mývatn in northern Iceland, a base for lava fields, steaming geothermal ground and big waterfalls.

Reykjahlíð lies on the north-east shore of Lake Mývatn, in a volcanic landscape of lava, craters and hot ground about 54 km east of Akureyri. Lava from the Mývatn Fires of the 1720s flowed through this district, and the village church is said to have been spared in 1729 when a flow divided around it. The lake's name means midge lake, for the clouds of harmless midges that hover over the water in summer.
