  • 5A lovely cooking experience in Samarkand

I really enjoyed learning to make plov and somsa during this cooking class in Samarkand. You can pick 1 dish in addition to the plov to make and it was really hard to choose as all the photo looked amazing. Akram took us to a handmade carpet making workshop and a non/bread making workshop before we went to his house to make plov. We had a great chat with Akram's family as well using google translate and chatgpt. It was a lovely way to experience Uzbek food and culture, and a memorable part of my trip. I’d definitely recommend it!

  • 5Really great experience...

Really great experience learning to cook plov. Akram also provides you with a list of options for your second dish. I chose shashlik. His entire family was so welcoming, and this was definitely one of my favorite experiences. The food was also phenomenal! I appreciated that he was so flexible on a start time for me and even dropped me off at the train station in time for me to catch my train back to Tashkent. You will not find a more hospitable and kind person.

  • 5“More Than a Cooking Class!

One of the best experiences I had in Samarkand! We shopped for ingredients at a local market with Akram, visited a bakery to see traditional bread being made, and then joined his family at their home to cook plov and chuchvara together. Akram and his family were incredibly warm and welcoming. This was much more than a cooking class—it was a wonderful opportunity to experience Uzbek family life, food culture and genuine hospitality. Highly recommended!

  • 5Great Family Sunday Lunch

Akram and his family were very welcoming with at least 3 generations of the wider family there, all hospitable and interesting. The food was delicious and Akram's English was very good so he was able to answer lots of questions we had had about Uzbekistan. We quickly felt like we were guests, not just tourists. I would really recommend this very memorable experience.

  • 5Must do in Uzbekistan if you want to experience the culture

Review This was so much more than a cooking class—it was a genuine Uzbek family experience in a village outside Samarkand. From the moment we arrived, Akram and his wife welcomed us into their home and treated us like family. We were greeted with a huge table filled with delicious food, tea, and sweets. I went to the market with them and we made the national food of plove and the best kebab/shakili i ever had. They were all cooked using real tree wood coal. The food was absolutely delicious, but what made the experience truly special was getting to learn about Uzbek culture and everyday family life. The family was all so welcoming and i felt bad that i dont speak russian as the vibrant father really wanted to communicate with me :-) Akram was a wonderful host, and we had so much fun. We left feeling like we had spent time with old friends rather than simply attended a cooking class. Highly recommended if you want an authentic and memorable Uzbek experience!

  • 5The best of best

The absolute highlight of my trip to Samarkand! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This cooking class was honestly the best experience I had during my entire trip to Samarkand. From the moment we arrived, the family made me feel so welcome. It was so much more than just a cooking class. It was a genuine opportunity to experience Uzbek culture, food, traditions, and family life. We cooked traditional Uzbek plov and khanom together, and everything was explained with so much care and patience. The food was absolutely delicious, but the experience itself was what made it so special. What I loved most was that the family went beyond the cooking class and showed me more of their culture. They took me to see how traditional Uzbek bread is made and also took me to a silk carpet shop, where I could see the incredible craftsmanship that goes into making these beautiful carpets. These little experiences made the day feel so personal and authentic. After cooking, we sat together and enjoyed the food we had prepared. The hospitality was incredible. Everyone was so warm, kind, and welcoming, and I genuinely felt like I was spending the day with a local family rather than simply doing a tourist activity. If you are visiting Samarkand, please do this cooking class! It was easily the highlight of my trip and one of those experiences that I know I will remember for a very long time. I came to Samarkand wanting to experience the culture, and this gave me exactly that. ❤️🇺🇿 Absolutely unforgettable. Highly, highly recommended!

About Samarkand
