El Palacio de Diocleciano, construido hacia el cambio al siglo IV como residencia de retiro del emperador, es el casco antiguo mismo: sus muros, sótanos y patios albergan viviendas, tiendas y cafés. El Peristilo, el corazón de columnatas, conduce a la Catedral de San Domnio, antaño mausoleo del emperador, y su campanario ofrece vistas sobre los tejados.
