The Roman countryside is one of the most beautiful, relaxing and peaceful areas of the surrounding area of Rome, and oftentimes underrated by the average tourist, but often sought after by discerning visitors seeking off the tourist beaten path treasures. On this private tour from your accommodation in Rome, you'll journey through the relaxing Roman countryside which during ancient times was known as Etruria, and was ruled by the highly advanced yet mysterious pre-Roman civilization, the Etruscans. This tour will take you to visit the famous Etruscan frescoed tombs (the only ones in the world!) in Tarquinia, and to Tuscania, the ancient town with one of the most beautiful views in all of Italy. This is as Tour By Car with only an English Speaking Driver (it does NOT include Tour Guides or Walking Tours). Italian laws permits only licensed tour guides to accompany guests on foot to sightsee. To comply with these strict laws, Driver will wait for you with the vehicle while you SELF TOUR.
You'll make our way to the tombs, you'll walk through the evocative necropolis surrounded by a panorama of serene hills, valleys, and the sparkling sea. As you descend down the steps 2,500 years into history towards the burial chambers, you come face to face with vibrant details that paint a portrait of the daily lives of these enigmatic ancient people. Tickets are currently € 8 per person and can be purchased on location.
In the center of Tarquinia lies this splendid Gothic Palace, which today is the Etruscan National Museum. On three floors, it houses a precious collection of Etruscan Artifacts which were excavated from the Necropolis of Monterozzi. Tickets to the museum are currently € 6 and can be bought on location.
Beautiful Gothic Romanesque church on a hill just outside Tuscania, dominated by a rose window on the facade. The interior architecture and the mosaics are definitely worth seeing! You can choose to leave an offering that will go towards the restoration at the caretakers.
Dominated by a tall bell tower, the facade of Santa Maria Maggiore is adorned with carved and sculpted Christian symbols of the Evangelists and biblical stories. The use of different colored stones gives prominence to its large wheel-shaped rose-window.

Top-ranked sights in Roma: Colosseum, Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel.
