Experience the best of San Luis Talpa

San Luis Talpa lies in the La Paz department of El Salvador, on the low coastal plain a short distance from the Pacific and south-east of the capital, San Salvador. The municipality is best known as the site of the country's main international airport, Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport, which is the first sight of El Salvador for most visitors.

Around the airport the land is flat, hot and cultivated, with sugar cane and pasture, as on much of the Pacific plain. The sea is close, and a little further along the coast the Jaltepeque estuary and the beaches of the Costa del Sol have mangroves and long stretches of sand. The volcano of San Vicente rises to the east and Lake Ilopango lies to the north.

Pupusas, thick corn tortillas stuffed with cheese, beans or pork and served with pickled cabbage and tomato sauce, are the national dish, often flavoured with loroco, an edible flower. Horchata made from morro seeds is the drink. The dry season runs from November to April, and the rains fall from May to October.
