Experience the best of Malé
Malé is the crowded island capital of the Maldives, a small, dense city of coral-stone mosques, fish markets and harbour ferries to the resort atolls.

Malé occupies a small, low island in the North Malé Atoll, packed with tightly spaced buildings, narrow streets and motorbikes. The Hukuru Miskiy, or Old Friday Mosque, built of carved coral stone in the seventeenth century, stands among shaded graves, while the golden dome of the Islamic Centre dominates the skyline. The National Museum in Sultan Park holds royal relics.
The fish market on the waterfront buzzes when fishermen bring in tuna, and the produce market nearby is stacked with coconuts, bananas and papayas. A ferry crosses to Hulhumalé, built on reclaimed land, and Velana International Airport sits on its own island across the water. Dhonis and speedboats carry visitors to resort islands and snorkelling reefs in the atoll.
Mas huni, a mixture of smoked tuna, coconut and onion eaten with flatbread, begins the day, and garudhiya, a clear tuna soup, and short eats such as fried fish balls fill the tea shops. The sunniest months run from December to April, while the south-west monsoon brings rain and wind from May to November.
