About Malé
Malé is the crowded island capital of the Maldives, a small, dense city of coral-stone mosques, fish markets and harbour ferries to the resort atolls.
Malé occupies a small, low island in the North Malé Atoll, packed with tightly spaced buildings, narrow streets and motorbikes. The Hukuru Miskiy, or Old Friday Mosque, built of carved coral stone in the seventeenth century, stands among shaded graves, while the golden dome of the Islamic Centre dominates the skyline. The National Museum in Sultan Park holds royal relics.
