Tarragona is a Mediterranean port south-west of Barcelona, once the Roman city of Tarraco, with an amphitheatre by the sea and a Gothic cathedral.
Tarragona was Tarraco, a major Roman city in Spain, and its ruins form a World Heritage Site: an amphitheatre set on the shore, a circus whose vaults lie beneath the streets, forum remains and long stretches of city wall.
