Destaques

Uganda is one of the few countries in the world where the Imaginary line that divides the earth into two halves (The Equator) passes. It being one of the most and well-known landmarks in Uganda, many people come here from different parts of the world to feel the lighter-weight experience and many other things and be able to stand on the two Hemispheres that make our world. Lighter weight!! It’s true, you will find out that your 3% lighter at the equator line. Why? This comes about because; weight is a force of which gravity acts on mass. Along this line, anyone’s weight will be less by 0.5% thus gravity is 0.5 % less at the Equator. This is inclined to the earth not being a perfect sphere. At the poles, it is flattened. You will be a few tons of kilometers away from the center of the earth while standing at the equator unlike when standing at the poles. Gravity is therefore only slightly less at the equator because it falls off with distance.

  1. Our Guide will point out where the 0 degrees latitude crosses, point out the southern hemisphere and also the northern hemisphere. With the help of the magnetic fields and the water used, he will show you that in the Northern pole, the water will sink out through the hole in the clockwise angle. However, in the southern pole, the water will sink down the hole in a counter-clockwise as caused by the magnetic fields. The experience is finished off with the water sinking at the 0 degrees latitude straight down, proving that that is the imaginary line that crosses the whole world. This is as simple as it sounds but the experience is in a way mind blowing as you see with proving how the water is sucked down in all different directions.

About Kampala

Kampala is Uganda's capital, spread across low hills near Lake Victoria, with royal tombs, cathedrals and mosques, busy markets and a lively music scene.

Kampala is built on a scattering of hills in southern Uganda, a short distance north of Lake Victoria. The Kasubi Tombs, the burial ground of the Buganda kings, are a World Heritage Site. The Uganda Museum is one of the oldest in East Africa and holds musical instruments and crafts. The hilltop Namirembe and Rubaga cathedrals, and the National Mosque on Old Kampala Hill with its minaret, each give views over the city.
