4Good tour with a very knowledgeable guide!
Very good tour. Alessandro was a knowledgeable guide. He explained everything about the volcano. We walked part-way up Mt Etna and actually got to see a spectacular sunset! The first part of the ascent was the hardest, but after that it was okay. I was with my 78 year old mother-in-law. She used sticks which helped a lot. We had hiking boots, but trainers would be fine, if you don't mind them getting dirty from the volcanic dust. It was dry when we went. If you did it in wet conditions, I'd recommend grippy footwear.
5Very good
Our guide was fantastic, very passionate about Sicily and so knowledgeable about the volcano. The van we travelled in was comfortable and the journey had plenty to see. We enjoyed the tasting on the way (felt no pressure to buy anything, but did because it was fabulous!). Etna is incredible and overall an amazing afternoon.
5Really enjoyed the tour...
Really enjoyed the tour with Eduardo, very knowledgeable and passionate about Mt etna. Highlight was definitely seeing the lava caves once it went dark.
3Mt Etna sunset tour
I was the only English speaking guest with a group of French speaking guests. I booked and paid for an English group and was not told until I was in the trip. The guide spent way more time speaking in French than English and when I asked near the end of the tour “could you please explain in English what you just explained in French?” He was annoyed I asked and said yes I will and then gave me a one sentence explanation that he had spent minutes explaining in French. When I said “is there not more information in English?” He said well it’s much easier to explain in English and that yes he told me everything. It was impossible to hear him sitting in the back of the bus so I had to squash in the middle front seat. A microphone world have been helpful! It was very dark once we walked back down the mountain only his light from his mobile in front of himself which did not help those walking behind him. A portable torch like he loaned us at the cave would have been helpful. There was no outline of the itinerary out updates of where we were going or what time we would finish. No sunset because of thick ask clouds but th ere was no control over that. I would not recommend this tour.
5Excellent tour, weather...
Excellent tour, weather was kind good short hike after some wine.....................................
5Great trip. Well worth the money. I'm so glad we booked this one.
All round great experience. Top end wine and food tasting followed by a very informative visit to a lava cave and a great hike on Mount Etna. Christian was a great guide.
Catania, on Sicily's east coast, is a black lava-stone city beneath Mount Etna, with a noisy fish market, Baroque squares and a long seafront.
Catania lies at the foot of Mount Etna, the active volcano whose lava reached the city in 1669, and an earthquake in 1693 flattened it. Rebuilt in the eighteenth century in the Baroque style, it uses black lava stone for walls and paving, set against white limestone. The Piazza del Duomo has an elephant of lava stone carrying an obelisk, the cathedral of Sant'Agata, and a fountain.
Top-ranked sights in Catania: Piazza Duomo, Via Crociferi (Via dei Crociferi) , Gambino Winery (Vini Gambino).
